FOOD 4 THOUGHT

| OUR PURPOSE |
This Center exists to support all people with the transformation of their lives. We do this by teaching Spiritual Principle and by celebrating the Promise of Living.
Our philosophy, outlook and practice is based on the pioneering work of Dr. Ernest Holmes. Our basic textbook is "The Science of Mind" by Dr. Holmes. Our founding pastor was Dr. David J. Walker. We honor his legacy by adhering to the essence of the Science of Mind teachings and by treating to know "that the innermost God and the highest God are one and the same."
The purpose of life is to strike a balance between
acknowledging our
completeness and enjoying our creativity.

What Inspires Me
Just this week I received an email from a good friend who lives in Japan. Her message was brief. There were a few comments about the difficulties that so many are living with. Most of her message was simply a request for prayer. As part of her message, she included a post from a blog-one that quoted a letter from a Japanese monk. This is a part of that post; A Japanese Monk Sent this Prayer Request The damage of the earthquake in Japan is devastating... Please join our prayer. Feel free to forward this prayer request to anyone. It would be great if more people can pray. Please heal the suffering, sadness, anger, worry about nuclear plants. Please care for each other...Change the worrying voice to the power of prayer. We will be O.K. if our hearts start connecting with each other and then earth will be healed.
There are the sounds/vibrations that can release the karma of earth. Anyone who can make a prayer sound, anyone who can do reiki, anyone who can do long distance healing, please direct your energy to the center of Japan. The exact location is above the Hachiro gata, Akita Prefecture. If you can sing, please sing. Humming is fine too. Let the earth listen to the sound. Gratitude for our life. Fuma This simple request was moving and inspiring to me. No matter what might be going on we know that prayer, in whatever form it takes, is always the best first response. Always. In our Wednesday night class this past week, I read this same letter. (As we've been studying Emerson there's been lots of talk about Nature.) What we decided to do was to follow this monk's advice. As part of "what is ours to do" we sang. The song we chose was the one we all sing together each week. But we chose to sing it in a more mindful, directed way. As we sang, we knew that we were putting a healing charge into the world--creating a new cause toward healing an urgent problem. This was our song: We are the Light and the Way of Spirit One with the Mind that creates all things One with the Infinite Force within us The River of Life, Eternal and Free, the Power We are One, We are Love, We are One. As you go through your days (and life), when confronted with disturbing news, sing. Sing this particular song. Sing it a hundred times a day if necessary. And when you do, know that your doing the most important thing you can--you're claiming the Truth. When you do that you become a blessing to all people and all situations everywhere.

Reviews
Our Annual Membership Meeting was held on Sunday March 6th immediately following the 10am celebration. There were 46 active members in attendance. Rev. Marian Moon opened with a powerful treatment. There were elegant and succinct reports from the President and Treasurer, Csynthia Savage and Terry Dadd. Rev. McLean also gave a report, touching lightly on topics such as our finances, our office and Sunday locations, the work of practitioners, the CSl conference in San Diego, and thanks and appreciation for all the volunteers who do so much and support our work.
If you were not on hand and did not get a copy of our first Annual Report, please make sure you pick one up at the Staff Table.
Prior to the Annual Meeting, we also announced our 2010 Ministry Honors. They are as follows:
Ministry Honors
"Founders' Award" Ms. Kelly Britt
for extraordinary long-time service
"Pace e Bene" Ms. Bunny Hull
for being an inspirational presence
"Light Expressing" Rev. Marian Moon for walking the talk
"Making A Difference" Rev. Keith Cox for principle-based action in the world
We feel that it's important to let people know just how much they matter to us, and these four individuals have made powerful contribtuions, over time, to our community and our world.

The Women of Spirit honored Rev. Marian G Moon on Saturday, March 19th. Here's what Bunny Hull said about the day:
CSL- LA's "Women Of Spirit" honored Rev. Marian Moon as our Spiritual Matriarch, as someone who has truly walked the talk and given us so much. The afternoon began as we surrounded her in a circle of love, each one sharing a little piece of our personal history with her....a cutting from our garden, a meaningful spiritual reading, a photo of someone who had inspired us on our journey. We each brought a gift of something personal with which we were willing to part. We laughed and cried and then enjoyed a beautiful meal to which we all contributed. It was truly a great day to remember. Marian was beaming!
This was a beautiful way for our Women to affirm that Rev. Moon truly is "Light Expressing." (PS...the men love Marian too!)

Previews - Classes in May & June
Keys to The Kingdom An Advanced Course In Prosperity
SOM 299 Wednesdays @ 7pm May 4, 11, 18, 25, June 1, 8, 15, 22
John McLean, facilitating
Keys to the Kingdom is an advanced course in prosperity consciousness It has two purposes. First, it is designed to help you identify and change your limited beliefs about abundance, happiness, balance, and success. Second, it is intended to help you see the relationship between your spiritual growth and your participation in your spiritual community-CSL-LA.
As a tool for spiritual growth, this class will require an extraordinary level of commitment designed for those of you who are ready and willing to take the very large leap in faith necessary to transform a consciousness of lack and limitation into a consciousness of true abundance.
This curriculum was created by Rev. David Owen-Ritz. In my ten years of teaching principle (JM), it has been the most effective in advancing students to a higher level of
understanding through joyful yet rigorous spiritual practice (which includes a deeply rewarding experiment with tithing) than any other. This is an advanced course in that it requires a very conscious commitment to "do the work."
This is a course based on the spiritual principle of tithing; therefore you must be willing to tithe of your "time, talent and treasure" as well as attend all eight classes and complete all of the assignments. $50 for class materials (which includes seven (7) weekly cd's and a Course Workbook) will be collected on the evening of the first class.
If you are willing to make this commitment, you will pro- foundly alter your experience of life's possibilities--that's a guarantee. This is the class that might change your life! It changed mine.
Pre-registration is required and this is the only 200 level class that is considered a "closed class" (single night attendance is not feasible because of the progressive nature of the curriculum). Registration must be confirmed by April 27th so that materials can be ordered from the creator or the curriculum.
Sign up at the Staff Table, emailing johnm@csl-la.org, or by calling the office.

Treatment for March
I Live In A Friendly Universe
I am one with a Mind that fills me with inspiration and provides an ongoing stream of intelligence for my use at all times. I live in a friendly Universe. I am surrounded by love and by people who enrich my world. I create from a deep place of knowing, always expressing at the highest level. I draw to me all that I require and experience success in any of my chosen fields of endeavor. Daily I am met in life by people whose lives I can enhance and who enhance my world in return with their gifts. I am grateful. I live in a body that provides optimum energy and vitality at all times for I am mindful of all that is required of me mentally to know the perfection that I was born to express. The life stream flows unobstructed within me. I am blessed with abundance in all forms and all that I require is provided for me without delay. I give what is mine to give and am open to receive that which is mine. I live in the great circle of Life. I live freely, fully, wholly, with deep conviction in my beliefs, aware of what is mine to know and experience. There is no one and no thing that can work against me, as I am for myself. I live in an infinite world of good, in a consciousness that is evolved and resolute, expectant and joy-filled because I know - - I live in a friendly universe. And so it is.

From The Perennial Philosophy
All things in this creation exist within you, and all things in you exist in creation: there is no border between you and the closest things, and there is no distance between you and the farthest things, and all things, from the lowest to the loftiest, from the smallest to the greatest, are within you as equal things. In one atom are found all the elements of the earth; in one motion of the mind are found the motions of all the laws of existence; in one drop of water are found the secrets of all the endless oceans; in one aspect of you are found all the aspects of existence...(Thus) "Your life has no end, and you shall live forevermore."
Kahlil Gibran
Khalil Gibran; Arabic جبران خليل جبران , January 6, 1883 - April 10, 1931, was a Lebanese American artist, poet, and writer. Born in the town of Bsharri in modern-day Lebanon, as a young man he emigrated with his family to the United States where he studied art and began his literary career.

Remembering Dr. David Walker
April marks the first anniversary of Dr. Walker's passing. We're all aware of this and want to put it out there so we can, as a community, remember and celebrate. The following is a piece written just prior to his passing. It serves well as a touching reminder, a motivation, and a valediction. Honor and Blessings on our Teacher!
Life gives us the responsibility of remembering that the source of everything we are, or hope to be, or have, is the result of the impartation of Spirit within us.
Spirit is another word for Mind. Holmes says: "Everything in the universe lives only because it has a Divine spark incarnated in it."
The conclusion that God is all there is means that all is God-occupied, God-personalized, God in everything AS that thing. Yes, everything is the result of Mind in action. Just remember that your mind is forever creating something. Go to that place where there is no experience - and create something new. So - maintain control over what you let yourself think about, and don't be in bondage to any idea.
Think for yourself - and be happy!

The Final Word
Every Creature Is A Book About God Apprehend God in all things, For God is in all things. Every single creature is full of God And is a book about God. Every creature is a word of God. If I spent enough time with the tiniest creature - Even a caterpillar - I would never have to prepare a sermon. So full of God Is every being. Meister Eckhart Eckhart von Hochheim O.P. (c. 1260 - c. 1327), commonly known as Meister Eckhart, was a German theologian, philosopher and mystic. Meister is German for "Master". |
